Oakland Parks & Recreation Kicks-Off National Recreation & Parks Month With "Play Day On The Plaza" City Hall Plaza Transforms Into a Giant Play Area for Kids and Families July Offers Free Events, Special Programs and For Immediate Release on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 Oakland. CA - Oakland Parks and Recreation (OPR) kicks-off National Recreation and Parks Month with "Play Day on the Plaza." on Friday. June 27 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Frank H. Ogawa Plaza. in front of City Hall. "Play Day on the Plaza" is a free. community event designed to promote public awareness about and visibility of Oakland Parks and Recreation's programs and services. as well as showcase the many community organizations and agencies that partner with OPR. "Play Day on the Plaza" festivities include arts and crafts. music. a rock climbing wall. line dancing lessons for adults. multiple sports activities. a Double Dutch jump rope demo. interactive games. a jumper. a wade pool. food. giveaways and much more! Since 1985. the National Recreation and Park Association has designated July as Recreation and Parks Month. Recreation facilities and parks across the country annually use July to celebrate the kick off of summer programming. as well as a time to pull their communities together to volunteer. get involved in great outdoor physical activities. and advocate for parks and recreation. As part of this year's celebration. Oakland Parks and Recreation is hosting activities throughout the month to keep the entire community active and involved. including special events. free swims. and open houses at all of our recreation centers.
